This year, teams will take on a real challenge in the field of ancient studies. Your mission: build a machine learning-powered recognition tool for an ancient writing system.
The team with the best product wins $100 cash prize for each member! Solutions judged on classification accuracy, signs covered, and documentation quality.

Event Schedule
Opening Ceremony
In-person at ISAW (Institute for the Study of the Ancient World). Introduction to the challenge, competition structure, logistics, and workshop schedule.
Online Workshops
Three expert-led online workshops:
Vibe Coding Workshop
Led by Minu Choi, Co-founder of Southbridge AI
Machine Learning Workshop
Led by Dr. Jing Zhang, NYU Postdoctoral Researcher
Ancient Language Workshop
Led by Ida Adsboel Christensen, ISAW PhD Candidate
Competition Weekend
Work on-site at NYU Bobst Library with your team. Volunteers and mentors available for guidance. Submit your products with full documentation and user manual.
Closing Ceremony
Prizegiving at ISAW. Judges announce winners based on accuracy, coverage, and documentation. $100 cash prize per winning team member!
