Code of Conduct
ArchaeoHack is dedicated to providing a harassment-free, inclusive, and welcoming experience for everyone. This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior.
Our Pledge
In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as organizers and participants pledge to make participation in ArchaeoHack a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
Expected Behavior
All participants are expected to:
Be Respectful
Treat all participants with respect and consideration. Value diverse perspectives and experiences.
Be Collaborative
Work together constructively. Share knowledge and help others learn and grow.
Be Inclusive
Welcome newcomers and create space for all voices. Use inclusive language.
Be Professional
Maintain a professional demeanor. Give and accept constructive feedback gracefully.
Be Mindful
Be aware of your surroundings and fellow participants. Alert organizers if you notice concerning behavior.
Have Fun!
Enjoy the experience, make friends, and celebrate everyone's achievements.
Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable:
- Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion
- Unwelcome comments regarding lifestyle choices and practices
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
- Harassing photography or recording without consent
- Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or other activities
- Unwelcome sexual attention or physical contact
- Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors
Consequences
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:
- Warning the offender
- Expulsion from the hackathon without refund (if applicable)
- Banning from future ArchaeoHack events
- Reporting to NYU administration or campus security
- Contacting local law enforcement if necessary
Reporting
If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please report it as soon as possible:
How to Report
- In Person: Find any organizer (they will be wearing identifiable badges/shirts)
- Email: archaeohack@nyu.edu
- Anonymous: Use our anonymous reporting form (available during the event)
All reports will be handled with discretion. We will not disclose your identity without your permission, except as required by law.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all ArchaeoHack spaces, including:
- The hackathon venue and all associated event spaces
- Online platforms (Discord, Slack, social media, etc.)
- Pre-event workshops and meetups
- Any related social events
This Code of Conduct also applies to behavior outside these spaces when such behavior has the potential to affect the safety and well-being of community members.
